by JAVIER TAPIA
–  Opening on April 8th at 5-8 pm –
Exhibition period April 8th to May 14th

                                                                                                                                          [ENG. Press release below]

Titlen “The Good, The Bad and The Human” henviser til Sergio Leones film “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” fra 1966.

Soloudstillingen indgår i udstillingsrækken “Inside Out”.

————————-
In the exhibition  “The Good, The Bad and The Human” Javier Tapia shows a selection of new works created especially for Third Space. Drawings, documents, books, objects in varying sizes and a soundscape, made in collaboration with sound artist and musician Niels Kristian Eriksen, make up the installation. The walls of the gallery recall the energetic feel of the white cube, while the gallery window functions as a display montre for found objects making up a form of contemporary “ethnographic collection”.

The title ”The Good, The Bad and The Human ” refers to the famous Western movie “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly ” by Sergio Leone from 1966. The movie takes place in a time in which the American continent was being populated by European immigrants full of hope and ambitions for a better life. Using the film as a starting point Tapia unfolds his distinct visual perspective on global topics, such as human rights, colonialism, slavery and racism. He looks at these in their historical context, at the same time as focusing on the way they are related to the hierarchies and power relationships of our times. The exhibition points at how nations create their own histories, the geopolitical circumstances that we are all dependent on at the same time as it challenges the universe of our common media memory.

Tapia who is born in Chile has studied in Usa, Spain and most recently at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen from which he graduated in 2010.

The solo exhibition is part of the exhibition series “Inside Out”.
